I made it out to Indian Hill for the star party on Saturday night. I arrived around 7 o'clock to get my scope set up - I had the 16-inch Dob setup near the north observatory. We had a few club members present; I don't believe too many of the general public showed - maybe half a dozen or so.
I had a look at Saturn and the Moon early on. High, thin clouds made their presence much of the evening and overtook most of the sky around 12:30. I packed up and left at 1 AM.
I shared some views of M11, M27, M57, M15, NGC 7789, NGC 457 while the moon was still up. After the moon set, we revisited M15, M57, and M27 with the binoviewer in my 16" scope. The binoviewer provides a stunning 3D view on these familiar objects. The Dumbell Nebula in the binoviewer is incredible!
I took a peek at T-Lyr as I usually do. T-Lyr is a variable star that glows a nice deep red when near its minimum. It showed a medium orange Saturday night.
I came prepared to study globular clusters, but the poor transparency after the moon set limited me to only one: NGC 6760 in Aquila. I found it to be round and pretty bright with mottling seen with averted vision. I'll revisit this one next time, hopefully under better sky conditions.
What did you see?
